Since I'll be working from home Monday, as long as I'm not terribly busy, I will try and post visible satellite pics every once and a while from the SPC's meso site so we can track the cloud cover leading up to the eclipse.

Some wonderful local eclipse info from Channel 9's Jennifer Ketchmark. She is def. the best Met on WCPO in my opinion.

https://www.wcpo.com/where-to-see-total-solar-eclipse

Taken from that article, you can see the eclipse info for your own location. Tim, you can put in your Brown Co IN spot and get all the details, if you have not already done so.

https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map ... %405162871

Here is the info for my hood.

Here in Greenville the Great Darke Co Fair fairground is packed with campers for the eclipse from what I've been told. Its only a block or two across the road from the 'hood where my folks and I reside. Also the hotels here in the area are full, too.

My folks and I are staying put and going to view the event at times from an open area here in the 'hood.

Any rain chances for Monday will be very early in the morning. We shall see how the sky cover loos throughout the day as I mentioned previously. Expecting low to mid 70s for temps which will be nice outside! Hopefully, we get rid of the low clouds. High clouds won't have too much of an impact of the eclipse viewing as lower clouds do.

Cloud cover forecasts from the NAM and Euro from previous runs, are in CB's overnight blog.

https://kyweathercenter.com/?p=64701

Otherwise, a pleasant day with highs in the 70s. We will start cloudy but have thinning clouds as the day progresses. SW winds 5 to 10 mph. Should be nice weather for the eclipse viewing if the clouds thin enough.

Latest thinking from the boys:

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Recent radar reflectivity shows that weak showers have mostly
progressed east out of the area with the exception of some small
cells along the Ohio River at the start of the near term. The
expectation is that all precipitation will be shunted east
before daybreak with some low and mid level clouds lingering.
Microphysics imagery depicts a stark cutoff of cloud cover along
eastern Indiana, moving east. So far, it does not appear that
any lower level stratus are building back in and the area behind
this morning`s rain is looking relatively clear... recent ACARs
indicates quite a bit of low level dry air between Cinci and
Fort Wayne, likely helping to inhibit any additional low level
cloud formation prior to the eclipse.

However, high res guidance and forecast soundings still indicate
that upper level cirrus will work its way northeast into the
region during the early afternoon hours. Typically, cirrus has
some opacity to it, so areas in totality will likely not have
their viewing of the eclipse limited too much.

High temperatures on Monday reach the low 70s area wide.

Update from the boys:

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Drier air in the low and mid levels advected into the Ohio
Valley a couple of hours earlier than anticipated, leading to a
faster eastward progression of the low and mid level clouds.
Satellite imagery does show a plume of cirrus clouds across
Missouri/Oklahoma that will translate northeastward through the
day. Based on latest trends this morning, most of this cirrus
deck is fairly translucent, which would be optimal for eclipse
viewing. There are some pockets of cirrostratus clouds that are
certainly more opaque, and while the sun would still likely be
viewable, this would be a bit more of an obstruction.
Additionally, some cu development is also possible through the
afternoon based on model soundings. However, cu will struggle
to grow or hang around for longer periods given the dry air
that it will run into, so the expectation is that even if cu
develops, it will not be tall or widespread enough to really
obstruct views for most. Morale of the story: most locations
will not have crystal clear blue skies, but majority of our CWA
will primarily just have cirrus clouds to deal with, which
should still allow for reasonable viewing opportunities. Sky
coverage will still be better today than normal climatology!

Highs on track to reach the lower to middle 70s. Winds out of
the southwest around 5-12 mph expected throughout the day
